Raise your hand if you love a good, juicy burger but maybe don’t always want to go all the way out back, fire up the grill, stand out there in all the nature, wait for it to heat, grill the burgers, clean the grill, and then finally. after what feels like days of work, eat your burger.

Yeah, same here.

Enter the air fryer! It takes all of that work out of the equation! Also, clean-up is an absolute dream. Everything is contained in the air fryer basket and it’s beyond simple to wipe it down or toss it in the dishwasher.

These burgers turn out nice and juicy, with loads of flavor.

You can season them however you like and, of course, switch up the cheese and toppings to suit your tastes. We kept it pretty classic, just to give you a good starting point.

We serve these with our air fryer tater tots or air fryer waffle fries! So good!

Ground beef– We used an 80/20 ground beef. It is fine to go leaner than this, but don’t go less lean. You don’t want too much grease from the fat in your air fryer.

Cheese– Assuming you are going to use cheese there are three great options.

  1. American Cheese
  2. Cheddar Cheese
  3. Pepper Jack Cheese

Seasonings– We use Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, seasoned salt, and garlic powder.

Don’t forget your hamburger buns too of course!

FAQs:

How can you tell when the hamburger is fully cooked?

A well-done burger should be cooked to 160 degrees. Use a meat thermometer to test.
For a medium rare burger, cook to 140.

Can I make these with frozen patties?

Probably, but we’ve honestly never tried. I would drop the temp by 10 degrees and cook for an additional couple of minutes.

What are the best condiments for a hamburger?

Our favorite sauce for cheeseburgers is fry sauce. This is basically just a mixture of ketchup and mayo, though we add a splash of vinegar.
A spicy barbecue sauce and a few slices of avocado make a great burger.
Some of my friends add butter to the burger and let it melt before adding their other toppings to the burger. Delicious!
Once, my husband even ordered a peanut butter burger from a local restaurant. We haven’t ordered it again, but it was fun to try!

These air fryer burgers turn out super juicy and so flavorful thanks to our simple mix of seasonings. Of course, you can add whatever seasonings you like and follow the same method for the air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices deli-style American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • lettuce, tomato, and pickles for topping

Instructions

  • Add the ground beef to a mixing bowl along with the Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, seasoned salt, and garlic powder. Use your hands to gently mix the beef together.

  • Form beef into 4 patties. Press your thumb into the center of the patty to make a small indention. This will help the patties hold their shape.

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees. Cook burgers for 6 minutes per side.

  • Turn off the air fryer, top burgers with cheese, and return to the air fryer for 1 minute to melt the cheese.

  • Serve on hamburger buns with desired toppings.

Notes

We like to grill our buns on the stove while the burgers are cooking. Spread with butter and grill until golden brown. It makes a huge difference and is totally worth the time.

I usually use a George Foreman Grill for my hamburgers because it takes most of the grease/fat out. What happens to the grease when you air fry?

It drains down to the bottom part of the basket, under the insert.

Hi! About using “Garlic Salt” this is an expensive way to buy
“Salt” You would save money buying the separate, & be able
to use a lesser amount of salt. Don’t forget there is normally
Salt & Pepper shakers on the table.

Season on both sides with salt, pepper, and burger seasoning. Preheat air fryer to 370°F. Cook for 5 minutes, then flip and cook another 5 minutes on the other side. Do you mix seasoning into the burger meat? ›

Mixing salt, pepper and any other seasonings right into your ground beef is one way to season them. This method has the advantage of distributing the flavors throughout the meat, and it's the only realistic way to get add-ins like minced onion or herbs into the mix.

How to season and cook burgers? ›

Place the burger patties in the hot pan, leaving a little space between each one. Work in batches if necessary. The burgers should sizzle on contact — if they don't, nudge the heat up a little. Generously season with salt and pepper, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.

How do you cook burgers in an air fryer without making a mess? ›

While I prefer the natural grill marks the air fryer basket makes, for a completely mess-free experience, use air fryer liners or a disposable air fryer basket. Shape the patties into equal-sized portions so that they cook evenly at the same time.

What temperature should you cook hamburgers in the air fryer? ›

Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F. Place the patties in the basket, leaving some space around each (cook in batches if needed). Air fry the burgers for 6 minutes, then flip and continue cooking until the internal temperature of the burger reaches 155 degrees F, about 2 to 4 minutes more.

Do burgers need to be flipped in an air fryer? ›

What seasoning is good on burgers? ›

What should I season my burgers with? ›

Onion Powder: Imparts a savory and slightly sweet onion flavor, enhancing the overall umami taste of the burger patties. Dried Oregano: Adds an earthy and herbaceous note to the seasoning. Kosher Salt: Enhances the natural flavors of the ground meat. Garlic Powder: Provides a rich garlic flavor to the seasoning.

Should I mix seasoning into burgers or on top? ›

It's faster and easier to sprinkle seasoning on the top and bottom of a burger patty instead of working it into the meat. It can help preserve the beef's juiciness.

Blue cheese, grilled pineapple, or avocado will add a lot of flavor to a classic hamburger. Many, if not all, of these ingredients can already be found in your kitchen and pantry.

Can you air fry burgers? ›

Are burgers better in the skillet or air fryer? ›

Since air fryers cook at a consistent temperature and pressure, your air-fried burgers will turn out the same every time. While they won't get the richness or smokiness of pan-frying and grilling, air-fried burgers will get a bit of crispness around the sides.

Insider's takeaway. Air fryer burgers not only require less effort than many other popular methods, but as an added bonus, air-fried burgers tend to be lower in fat than their seared or baked counterparts.

Can I put aluminum foil in an air fryer with burgers? ›

How long to air fry a burger at 400 degrees? ›

Are burgers better in the air fryer or pan? ›

When you cook burgers in a pan on the stove or in the oven, they simmer in their own fat. When you air fry them, excess fat drips off through the holes in the tray. They're super crispy. According to Lee, the rapid circulation of hot air in an air fryer causes the meat to crisp up nicely.
