In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God onFebruary 24, 2020, Pete Davidson confessed that Mac Miller's untimely passing in 2018 was a factor in the couple's split. He said, "I pretty much knew it was over after that.That was really horrible and I can't imagine what that sh*tis like."

According to Davidson, Grande deeply cared about Miller, and though Davidson offered to be there for her, she needed to grieve on her own.

In July 2019, Vogue magazine profiled Grande and the superstar opened up abouther whirlwind relationship with Davidson. "i really don't want to be on this earth anymore. i'm doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don't know how much longer i can last. all i've ever tried to do was help people. just remember i told you so."

Davidson later deleted his Instagram, but not before Grande caught wind of the alarming note. The pop star showed up to 30 Rock and sent out a since-deleted message to Davidson, saying, "I'm downstairs [at 30 Rock] and I'm not going anywhere if you need anyone or anything. I know u have everyone u need and that's not me, but i'm here, too." Reportedly, Davidson alerted his security team and asked them to keep his ex from seeing him.

After receiving a lot of hate on social media, Davidson took to Instagram to let folks know he isn't going anywhere. "No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won't. I'm upset I even have to say this," he wrote on a post.

Grande screen-grabbedher ex's post and added her own block of text to her Instagram story, saying, "i care deeply about pete and his health. i'm asking you to please be gentler with others, even on the internet."

On Thursday November 1, Davidson appeared on promos forSNLfeaturing host Jonah Hill and musical guest Maggie Rogers. In the clip, Davidson asks Rogers, "Hey Maggie, I'm Pete. You wanna get married?" The singer offers him an awkward "no" as Hill stands between them.

Roughly an hour after the promo started airing, Grande sent out a tweet that seemed to be aimed at her ex-fiancé, saying "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh." She followed that up with another tweet, "k, that's the last time we do that."

Grande has since deleted the tweets.
